The parable opens like this “Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.” Which suggests that the kingdom is like the scene portrayed by these bridesmaids who got late. In other words, some got to enjoy the banquet “Five of them were wise” and others got excluded due to lack of preparation “and five were foolish”.

This story tells us about the bridesmaids who weren’t ready; therefore late and were not recognised by the Lord (Matthew 25:12-“But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’”).This reflects how we should always be prepared (Matthew 25:13-“Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour”)
