When problems arise, our real natures come out
In moments of crisis and times of struggle, our true nature and true character are revealed. When everything around us is okay, we too are okay. When people are good to us, we are good to them. But when problems arise, our true nature is revealed. This is why God allows crisis, so that we may know our true character; for a good person, a holy person, is obedient to God even in times of crisis. Whether we are struggling with illnesses or financial trouble, whether we are dealing with one problem or countless problems, we must be at peace and look to God, trusting and praising Him, just like Job did.
However, many times, we Christians fail to do this. When God showers His blessings on us, we thank Him and glorify Him, but when our prayers are not answered, we become frustrated and show our true colours. Sometimes, we even become angry with God and stop praying. But God is faithful, even when we are not. ‘Joseph, in the time of his distress, kept the commandment and became Lord of Egypt.’ (1 Maccabees 2:53)
Therefore, in times of distress, let us keep the commandments and let the Lord fulfil His plans for us. Let us examine our conscience and ask ourselves: do we keep the commandments in times of crisis? Are we faithful to our God?
