Let Nothing Unholy Touch You
Young people around the world have a natural desire to enjoy life. This desire was evident in a young man who attended a one-day convention. When invited to a three-day residential retreat, he expressed a preference to enjoy his youth to the fullest first, and only consider attending the retreat when he was older. This attitude is common, even within our own families, where children often say that now is the time to enjoy movies, play computer games, dine out, and attend dances and gatherings that appeal to young people.
However, while engaging in these activities, we must remember the words of God in Ecclesiastes 11:9: “Rejoice, young man, while you are young and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Follow the inclination of your heart and the desire of your eyes, but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.”
The first part of this verse is very appealing, encouraging you to follow the inclinations of your heart and the desires of your eyes and mind. You are welcome to make friends, watch movies, play games, and enjoy jokes. However, it is crucial to remain vigilant about these pleasures because God will judge all these activities. Therefore, be cautious about what you see, what you enjoy, what you eat and drink, and whom you befriend. Be aware and careful, ensuring that nothing unholy touches you.
